Secretariat’s Preakness Garland

To be sold at auction

The flower garland draped over Secretariat after winning the 1973 Preakness Stakes will be sold at auction. Provenance of the garland originates directly from Secretariat's owner, Mrs. Penny Chenery.

The garland has been stripped of its flowers, folded into a V shape, professionally mounted and framed. A Preakness ribbon and single Black Eyed Susan flower remain.

In 1973, Secretariat became the first horse in 25 years to win the triple crown, posting record times which still stand in all three races; culminating in a historic win by over 30 lengths at the Belmont Stakes.

Retiring at the end of the season, with a lifetime record of 16-3-1 and earnings of $1,316,808, many will regard Secretariat as the best race horse ever.
