The Breeders’ Cup

The first Breeders’ Cup was held at historic Hollywood Park in 1984, in 2007 the series expanded to two full days of racing.

Each race is limited to a maximum of 14 contenders but the dirt mile which allows 12, while the contender selection criteria ensures level competition with challenge races and a point system.

The event rotates to different tracks each year, mostly among Santa Anita, Del Mar, Keeneland and Churchill.

Every year, the host track conducts a highly ceremonious, post position draw to assign the contenders who will start in each race.
